Rotta the Hutt

Rotta the Hutt was born in 32 BBY.

Jabba the Hutt's only son, Rotta is best remembered as the sickly Huttlet whose kidnapping early in the Clone Wars became a Separatist plot to turn the Hutts against the Republic. Count Dooku arranged the abduction with Rotta's great-uncle Ziro, and Asajj Ventress carried it out, holding the infant on Teth so the Jedi could be framed for his death. Anakin Skywalker and his new Padawan Ahsoka Tano fought their way into the B'omarr Monastery to rescue him. Ahsoka, who nicknamed him "Stinky," nursed him through a dangerous fever and carried him across the Tatooine desert while Anakin led Dooku away. Returning Rotta safely won Jabba's alliance and secured Republic access to Hutt hyperspace routes. Rotta stayed at his father's palace for the rest of the war. Decades later, after Jabba's death left him heir to the family's criminal empire, he turned his back on that legacy. He grew into a huge, muscular gladiator and became a crowd favorite in the fighting pits of Shakari while working off a debt to the Imperial warlord Janu Coin. When his scheming relatives, the Twins, sent Din Djarin and Grogu to bring him in, Rotta first fought the Mandalorian. Once Coin tried to have him killed, the two became allies and escaped the arena together.

~32 BBY - Birth

Rotta is born to Jabba the Hutt of the Desilijic kajidic. Jabba tells the young bounty hunter Greedo that he has recently become a father.

~32 BBY - A Wookiee Toymaker

Hoping to impress Jabba, Greedo brings him a captured Wookiee named Brewhada. Jabba makes Brewhada the infant Rotta's personal toymaker, and he crafts toys for the Huttlet, including a plush Wookiee.

22 BBY - Kidnapped by Ventress

During the Clone Wars, Asajj Ventress snatches Rotta from Jabba's sail barge, the Khetanna, with a Trident-class assault ship. The plot is Count Dooku's, aided by Rotta's great-uncle Ziro, and Rotta is locked in a cell at the B'omarr Monastery on Teth.

22 BBY - Rescue on Teth

After the Battle of Christophsis, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano and Torrent Company storm the monastery and find the sick Huttlet. The droid 4-A7 secretly records the Jedi so the rescue can be passed off as a kidnapping.

22 BBY - Escape from the Monastery

Trapped by Ventress and Separatist droids, Rotta points the Jedi to a distant landing platform. From there they escape Teth aboard the freighter Twilight.

22 BBY - Fever Broken

With the Republic cruiser's hangar destroyed, the Jedi head straight for Tatooine. On the way, Ahsoka gives Rotta a medical booster that breaks his life-threatening fever.

22 BBY - Returned to Jabba

After the Twilight crash-lands on Tatooine, Anakin draws Dooku away with a decoy backpack while Ahsoka fights MagnaGuards and delivers Rotta to his father. Padmé Amidala exposes Ziro's role, and Jabba allies with the Republic.

21 BBY - Papanoida at the Palace

Rotta is at Jabba's palace when Baron Papanoida and his son Ion come looking for Greedo, who has kidnapped the Baron's daughters. Rotta smashes a slug-beetle and eats it.

4 ABY - Heir to the Empire

Jabba dies during the rescue of Han Solo, leaving Rotta sole heir to his criminal empire. This angers his relatives, the Hutt crime lords known as the Twins, and Rotta rejects the inheritance to become his own man.

New Republic Era - Champion of Shakari

Now fully grown and heavily muscled, Rotta owes a debt to the Imperial warlord Janu Coin and must fight in Coin's gladiatorial pits on Shakari. Crowds first jeer Jabba's son, but they come to cheer him as he keeps winning.

New Republic Era - Hunted by the Mandalorian

The Twins make a deal with the New Republic to have Din Djarin and Grogu find Rotta, secretly planning to kill him. Rotta turns the Mandalorian away, insisting he has no interest in leaving Shakari or taking over the family business.

New Republic Era - Freedom in the Arena

Coin sets Rotta against Djarin, who lets the Hutt win. Coin then unleashes dejarik beasts to kill Rotta, and the two fight side by side. Rotta short-circuits the arena's electric fence, the beasts pour into the stands, and the chaos lets them escape.
