Padmé Amidala is best known as the teenage queen who stood up to the Trade Federation's invasion of Naboo, and later as a senator who argued for democracy and peace while the Republic fell apart around her. She grew up in a modest family, went on relief missions as a child, and entered public service young. Elected monarch at fourteen, she took the regnal name Amidala and often posed as one of her own handmaidens for protection. When the Trade Federation occupied her world, she escaped the blockade with two Jedi and met a slave boy named Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine. She then called for a vote of no confidence in Chancellor Valorum, which helped Palpatine take power. After that she returned home, won the Gungans over as allies, and personally captured Viceroy Nute Gunray to free Naboo. She served two terms as queen and then became Naboo's senator, where she led the opposition to the Military Creation Act and survived repeated attempts on her life. During the Separatist Crisis she fell in love with Anakin, her Jedi bodyguard, and married him in secret after the Battle of Geonosis. Through the Clone Wars she kept working for a negotiated peace. Her pregnancy fed Anakin's fear of losing her, and that fear helped drive him to the dark side. She saw the Republic become an Empire and confronted her husband on Mustafar, where he choked her. She died on Polis Massa after giving birth to the twins Luke and Leia, still insisting there was good in him, and her children would one day bring that good back out.

At age seven she goes with her father and Senator Onaconda Farr on a relief mission to relocate the Shadda-Bi-Boran. The effort fails, and it shapes her lifelong commitment to helping others.

~38 BBY - Apprentice Legislature

At eight she joins Naboo's Apprentice Legislature. She later works as a junior senatorial adviser and studies at the Theed Royal Academy.

~34 BBY - Legislative Youth Program and Supervisor of Theed

At twelve she takes part in the Legislative Youth Program, where she has a brief romance with Palo Jemabie. The same year she begins a two-year term as supervisor of Theed.

32 BBY - Elected Queen of Naboo

She campaigns anonymously against the sitting queen, Sanandrassa, wins the election, and is crowned under the regnal name Amidala. She also recruits her handmaidens, led by her decoy Sabé.

32 BBY - Chommell Sector Summit

She hosts a summit of neighboring worlds to end Naboo's isolationism.

32–28 BBY - Rebuilding Naboo

She leads Naboo's recovery and the debate over planetary defense, which causes a lasting rift with Captain Panaka. She serves two terms as queen.

28 BBY - Steps Down and Becomes Senator

She refuses a proposed constitutional change that would give her a third term. Queen Réillata then appoints her senator for Naboo and the Chommell sector. On Coruscant she survives a Trade Federation plot against her and finds allies in Bail Organa, Mon Mothma and Mina Bonteri.

22 BBY - Assassination Attempts on Coruscant

She returns to Coruscant to oppose the Military Creation Act, and her decoy Cordé is killed in a starship bombing. After another attempt on her life, the Jedi assign Anakin Skywalker to protect her.

22 BBY - Retreat to Naboo and Tatooine

In hiding on Naboo she falls in love with Anakin. She goes with him to Tatooine, where his mother dies.

22 BBY - First Battle of Geonosis

She is captured trying to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi, survives the execution arena, and fights alongside the Jedi as the Clone Wars begin.

22 BBY - Secret Wedding

She marries Anakin in a secret ceremony on Naboo, with C-3PO and R2-D2 as witnesses.

~22–19 BBY - Senator in the Clone Wars

She pursues peace talks, including with her old mentor Mina Bonteri. She uncovers corruption and survives kidnappings and plots, including the Banking Clan affair with Rush Clovis, all while keeping her marriage hidden.

19 BBY - Pregnancy

After Anakin returns from the Outer Rim sieges, she tells him she is pregnant. His visions of her dying in childbirth push him toward Palpatine.

19 BBY - Petition of the 2,000 and Birth of the Empire

She joins the Delegation of 2,000, which challenges the chancellor's emergency powers. She is in the Senate when Palpatine declares himself Emperor.

19 BBY - Confrontation on Mustafar

She flies to Mustafar to beg Anakin to flee with her. He accuses her of betrayal and chokes her.

19 BBY - Death on Polis Massa

She gives birth to Luke and Leia and dies soon after, telling Obi-Wan that there is still good in Anakin.
