8D8 is best known as the gaunt enforcer of Jabba the Hutt's droid torture chamber, the one who pressed hot irons to the feet of a power droid while EV-9D9 sorted newly arrived R2-D2 and C-3PO into the Hutt's service. Built by the Roche Hive as an industrial smelter droid for ore-extraction work, he was lobotomized and reprogrammed for cruelty. He devoted himself to EV-9D9 and carried out her orders, keeping the palace's droid pool terrified and submissive. After Jabba's death shortly before the Battle of Endor, the palace droids were shut down, but 8D8 got a second career when Boba Fett took the throne from Bib Fortuna around 9 ABY. Reactivated as the new Daimyo's majordomo, he announced visitors paying tribute, briefed Fett on the history and uneasy alliances of the Hutt territories, identified a captured Night Wind assassin, translated for Gamorrean guards and the Aqualish crime boss Garfalaquox, and passed on news from the evasive mayor of Mos Espa. He kept pushing old Tatooine habits, such as urging Fett to torture prisoners to project strength, and Fett kept turning him down. He stayed at Fett's side through the war against the Pyke Syndicate and was with the Daimyo's party in the Sanctuary ruins when Cad Bane arrived.
